Death toll from floods in India reaches 78

The death toll from floods in the northeastern Indian state of Assam has reached 78.
“Elchi” reports that the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) has released updated information regarding the floods in the state.
In a statement on the social media platform of the US-based X company, ASDMA reported that the bodies of 3 more people were found, bringing the death toll to 78.
The statement added, “Search and rescue operations and relief efforts are continuing uninterrupted to support the affected population.”
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated that more than 1.1 million people have been affected by the disaster and 8 people are still missing.
Sarma noted that approximately 1,718 relief centers are operating in the region.
The India Meteorological Department also shared information that heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in various parts of Assam over the next 3-4 days.
Authorities have urged the public to be cautious during heavy rains and to avoid non-essential travel.
