The United States government has banned the import of new, foreign-made humanoid robots and energy inverters, citing national security risks.
elchi reports that the ban covers advanced humanoid and quadrupedal robot models. The US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) announced that energy inverters used in data centers and solar panels also pose a risk to the US economy and critical infrastructure.
FCC Commissioner Brendan Carr stated that the agency is contributing to protecting the US critical supply chains. Under the new restrictions, these devices have been added to the list of products that pose a national security risk.
Existing models will not be affected
the decision covers new models manufactured in foreign countries that have not yet received FCC approval. The sale or import of existing models that have already been approved and are in use will continue.
The FCC stated that foreign-made energy inverters could lead to security vulnerabilities such as cyberattacks, data theft, or remote access.
