The Latvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has summoned Russia’s charge d’affaires.
“Elchi” reports, citing the “Reuters” agency, that this was stated in a declaration by the Latvian foreign policy department.
The reason for summoning the diplomat is the Russian strike on the Ukrainian city of Sloviansk, which resulted in damage to the building of Latvia’s honorary consulate.
The Latvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that Latvia’s honorary consul in Sloviansk, Aleksandr Pavenko, was not injured in the attack, but two consulate employees were wounded.
The agency also reported that a protest note was presented to the Russian diplomat.
“Latvia strongly condemns Russia for the attack on the city of Sloviansk and the destruction of the country’s honorary consulate building,” the statement said.
It was previously reported that the Russian strike on Sloviansk had damaged Latvia’s honorary consulate.
