On July 10, the delegation led by the President of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Latvia, Irēna Kucina, visited the Alley of Honor as part of their visit to our country, where they laid wreaths at the grave of the National Leader of the Azerbaijani people, Heydar Aliyev, and paid deep tribute to his cherished memory.

The guests also visited the grave of the prominent ophthalmologist-scientist, Academician Zarifa Aliyeva, and laid wreaths at her grave.
Afterward, the delegation visited the Alley of Martyrs, where they honored the memory of the heroic sons of the Motherland who gave their lives for the independence and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan, and paid their respects at the “Eternal Flame” monument.
Later, a meeting was held at the Constitutional Court with the delegation of the Constitutional Court of Latvia.
Welcoming the guests, Chairman Farhad Abdullayev noted with satisfaction that the existing friendly relations between Azerbaijan and Latvia, based on mutual respect and trust, have been developing dynamically in recent years. These relations received a new impetus following the official visit of the President of Latvia, Edgars Rinkēvičs, to Azerbaijan in April of this year, at the invitation of President Ilham Aliyev.

It was stated that the effective partnership relations formed between our states in political, economic, humanitarian, and other fields are also being successfully continued in the judicial-legal sphere. In this regard, the development of cooperation between the Constitutional Courts and the expansion of mutual experience exchange in ensuring the supremacy of the Constitution are of particular importance.

The Chairman provided the guests with detailed information about the consistent reforms being carried out in our republic in the direction of building a legal state, the modernization of the judicial-legal system, and the strengthening of the independence of the judiciary. Farhad Abdullayev spoke about the main activities of the Constitutional Court and the procedure for making decisions, the implementation of constitutional control, as well as the importance of the legal positions reflected in the court’s decisions for the development of the legal system.

President of the Constitutional Court of Latvia, Irēna Kucina, expressed her gratitude for the warm welcome and provided detailed information about the activities of the institution she leads, the experience formed in the field of implementing constitutional control, as well as the decisions adopted in the direction of protecting the constitutional rights of citizens.
The Madam President noted that conducting broad discussions and exchanging views on common issues facing constitutional justice bodies is extremely beneficial.

Subsequently, with the participation of judges and responsible staff of the Secretariats of the Constitutional Courts of both countries, a broad exchange of views took place regarding formed judicial practice, topical issues of constitutional control, modern mechanisms for the protection of rights and freedoms enshrined in the Constitution, the organization of judicial activity in the context of digital transformation, the application of artificial intelligence technologies, ensuring the uniformity of judicial practice, as well as other legal issues of mutual interest.
The meeting participants stated that the continuation of bilateral cooperation in the future will make a significant contribution to increasing the effectiveness of constitutional control based on progressive legal approaches.
At the end of the meeting, the guests got acquainted with the court building and took commemorative photos.
