Agency: Media entities must strictly comply with legislative requirements

Some information resources operating in the Republic of Azerbaijan are attempting to present themselves as media entities representing the interests of various ethnic minorities by speaking on behalf of different communities living in the country.

“Elchi” reports that this was stated in a declaration issued by the Media Development Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan (MEDIA).

In this regard, it was noted that all media entities carrying out media activities within the territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan must comply with the requirements of the Law of the Republic of Azerbaijan “On Media” and must be registered in the “Media Registry” Information System in the manner established by legislation.

“The website ‘Ajmedia.news’, which presents itself as an information portal created by the initiative of the Azerbaijan Jewish Media Center and public figures of Jewish descent, and which does not adhere to media ethics requirements in its published materials, is not present in the ‘Media Registry’ Information System. Furthermore, in connection with the violation of the requirements of the Law of the Republic of Azerbaijan ‘On Media’, a relevant court decision has been issued regarding the resource, and its activities have been deemed illegal.

We reiterate that all media entities, including those acting on behalf of any community or social group and carrying out media activities, must strictly comply with legislative requirements and provide the public with accurate, objective, and transparent information regarding their legal and professional status, direction of activity, and nature of representation,” the agency emphasized.
