The owner of the “Tagor” oil tanker, which was detained by the French Navy in the Atlantic Ocean, has been fined 1 million euros for lack of a flag and refusal to comply with the demands of the authorities.
“Elchi” reports that this was stated by Agence France-Presse, citing the Brest prosecutor’s office.
According to the department, as part of a plea agreement, “the administrative seizure of the vessel will be lifted, and it will be able to leave French territorial waters.”
On June 1, French President Emmanuel Macron announced that the republic’s Navy, with the support of Great Britain and other partners, had intercepted the Russian-linked, sanctioned tanker “Tagor” in the Atlantic Ocean. Meanwhile, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stated that Moscow considers the detention of the tanker illegal. According to him, this action borders on piracy.
