elchi reports that Russia is ready to hold peace negotiations with Ukraine. According to the Kremlin website, Russian President Vladimir Putin stated this during a meeting with government members.
“As stated many times, Russia is ready for peace negotiations with Ukraine, and is ready to do so based on the agreements reached in Istanbul. I remind you that these agreements were initialed by the Ukrainian delegation at that time, meaning everything was acceptable to them,” the head of state said.
On the morning of June 23, Ukraine’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Andriy Melnyk, announced that the republic is ready for direct negotiations on a lasting and just peace, including a ceasefire along the contact line with Russia. He stated that “Kyiv’s extended hand is hanging in the air” and that the country’s patience is “not infinite.” Melnyk claims that if the UN Security Council continues to take a wait-and-see approach, the situation may change.
On the same day, Andrey Kolesnik, a member of the State Duma Defense Committee, stated that Melnyk’s remarks regarding Kyiv’s refusal to negotiate and the continuation of military operations were blackmail.
