The World Cup has already turned into chaos

With only two days left until the World Cup, which will begin with Mexico hosting South Africa in the opening match, teams are finalizing their preparations at camps in North America, but visa crises have dominated the headlines even before the tournament has started.
“Elchi” reports that the issue of who can enter the USA before the World Cup has been a topic of discussion. The US administration’s immigration rules have turned into a concrete crisis with the start of the tournament.
Somali referee Omar Abdulkadir Artan, who was selected by the Confederation of African Football to officiate at the World Cup and was named Africa’s best male referee in 2025, was denied entry to the USA. FIFA has confirmed that the Somali referee will not be able to participate in the tournament. The US government cited “concerns regarding security screening” as the reason for the decision.
A FIFA spokesperson stated that the authority to grant visas and entry rights belongs entirely to the host government. In a statement, referee Artan said that despite the situation, he remains positive, is focusing on his next career goals, and wishes his colleagues success in the tournament. Visa and entry restrictions are affecting not only referees but also teams and fans. Security measures for the Iranian national team’s entry into the country have been increased, and it is reported that the travel permits of numerous Scottish fans were canceled at the last minute. Former Arsenal player and England international Ian Wright has called the tournament a “Chaos World Cup” due to these irregularities.
Diogo Jota’s memory will be on the pitch with Robertson
Portuguese footballer Diogo Jota’s wife, Rute Cardoso, has written an emotional letter to Scotland captain Andy Robertson.
Jota, who died in a car accident last summer along with his brother Andre Silva, was Robertson’s Liverpool teammate and close friend.
The two players strengthened their bond four years ago when they missed the Qatar World Cup and aimed to play together in the 2026 tournament.
After Scotland qualified for the tournament this summer, Robertson stated that Jota is always in his thoughts.
In the letter sent to Robertson via FIFA, Rute Cardoso wrote: “I know that when you step onto the pitch, you will not be walking alone; Diogo will be with you in your thoughts, your steps, and your heart. By taking your place in the World Cup, you are not going there alone; you are carrying his dream with you.”
