On 27 days of August, the air temperature was above the climatic norm

The weather observed in the country during the month of August has been announced.

According to the information provided to “Elchi” by the National Hydrometeorological Service, in August 2026, the air temperature in Baku and the Absheron Peninsula was above the climatic norm for 27 days (0–5 degrees) and below the norm for 4 days (0–3 degrees) compared to the climatic norm.

The average monthly temperature was 28 degrees Celsius, which is 2 degrees above the climatic norm.

In Baku and the Absheron Peninsula, the maximum temperature in August was recorded at 39 degrees Celsius on August 9 (Mashtaga), while in the regions, it reached 40 degrees Celsius on August 9 and 10 (Kurdamir). The minimum air temperature was 19 degrees Celsius on August 31 in Baku and the Absheron Peninsula (Sumgayit), and 6 degrees Celsius on August 30 in high mountainous areas (Shahdag).

On some days of August, the weather was intermittently rainy, with lightning and hail. In some places, the precipitation was intense and heavy. The highest precipitation was recorded in the Guba-Gusar zone (Shahdag – 250 mm), which is 381 percent of the monthly norm, and in Baku and the Absheron Peninsula (Baku – 19 mm, Chilov Island – 26 mm), which is 305 – 617 percent of the monthly norm.

During the month of August, hail was observed in the center of the Kalbajar district and the Alagollar area of the Istisu settlement, as well as small-grained hail accompanied by intense downpours in the suburban areas of Baku and the Absheron Peninsula.

Due to windy weather conditions on some days of August, 10 yellow and orange warnings were issued. Windy weather was observed for 12 days in Baku and the Absheron Peninsula, and for 28 days in the regions. The maximum wind speed reached 23 m/s in Baku and the Absheron Peninsula, and 24 m/s in the regions.
