On May 21, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, met with Ugochi Daniels, Deputy Director General of the International Organization for Migration (IOM), who is visiting our country to participate in the 13th session of the World Urban Forum held in Baku.
According to the information provided to elchi by the MFA, the meeting involved discussions on the current state of bilateral cooperation between Azerbaijan and the International Organization for Migration, prospects for future joint activities, and issues of mutual interest in the field of migration process management.
The parties positively assessed the dynamics of the long-term relations established between our country and the specialized agencies of the UN, particularly the International Organization for Migration.
The importance of joint initiatives implemented towards the modernization of management mechanisms in the field of migration was emphasized.
During the meeting, the other party was provided with detailed information about the large-scale infrastructure projects being implemented in the liberated territories and the economic rehabilitation of the region.
It was emphasized that the sustainable and phased return of former internally displaced persons to their native lands, which is one of the government’s main strategic priorities, is being successfully implemented.
Ugochi Daniels highly appreciated the reforms carried out in the field of migration in Azerbaijan, especially the work done towards the return of internally displaced persons and the “Great Return” program. She stated that the organization she represents is ready to continue cooperation with our country in the field of migration and to provide the necessary support for relevant projects.
During the meeting, an exchange of views also took place on other issues of mutual interest, as well as the regional situation.
