For the next 20 years, Georgia will be supplied with gas at a social tariff, and of course, we must express our special gratitude to the Azerbaijani side for this.
elchi reports with reference to Teleqraf that Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said this at a briefing held at the government administration.
According to the head of government, important agreements were signed in several areas during his recent visit to Azerbaijan:
“The first direction is related to gas import and transit from Azerbaijan. The extension of the social gas contract was of particular importance. This contract was concluded for a period of 20 years and was supposed to expire by the end of the year. Extending this contract for another 20 years was especially important for our country and our people. Gas will be supplied to Georgia at a social tariff and social price for the next 20 years. Of course, we must express our special gratitude to the Azerbaijani side for this.”
According to Kobakhidze, Georgia has very good results in terms of electricity import and transit.
Not disclosing the details of the contract, the head of government noted that it is a commercial secret:
“If this were not a commercial secret, the great benefits that this contract brings to our country and society would be clearer to the public. We also have very good results in the electricity sector, which is very beneficial for the country and society.
As for the operation of the Baku-Tbilisi-Supsa pipeline, this pipeline has been completely stopped and not working for the last 3 years. Accordingly, the country is losing potential income. As a result of months of negotiations, we reached an agreement with the Azerbaijani side to resume the operation of the pipeline. Our country will earn tens of millions of lari annually from this. These are very good terms, we have reached an agreement with the Azerbaijani side. There is a commercial secret here too.”
