Cuba: A US attack would lead to a bloodbath

Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel warned on Monday that a US military attack on Cuba would lead to a “bloodbath with unpredictable consequences.” This statement came at a time of renewed tensions between Havana and Washington.
elchi reports that in a statement on his social media account, Diaz-Canel stated that Cuba poses no threat to any country and has no aggressive plans or intentions. The Cuban leader said the US administration is well aware of this.
Noting that Cuba is already subject to a multifaceted attack by the US, Diaz-Canel emphasized that his country has an absolute and legitimate right to defend itself against a military attack.
The Cuban leader added that this situation cannot be used as a pretext to wage war against the noble Cuban people in a logical or honest way.
Due to renewed pressure from US President Donald Trump and a deepening energy crisis on the island under communist rule, bilateral relations between the two countries are at their lowest level in decades. Last week, Cuba’s Minister of Energy announced that the last-minute oil aid from Russia had run out and that the Cuban people would have to endure more power outages.
New sanctions are in effect
the Trump administration has decided to impose new sanctions against the Cuban government, its main intelligence agency, and the Ministry of the Interior. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said more sanctions could be expected in the coming days and weeks.
The US has also imposed sanctions on 11 Cuban officials, including the Attorney General and the Deputy Minister of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Cuba.
Another blow to the island came when major shipping companies announced they would stop transporting to and from Cuba to comply with the Trump administration’s new rules. This move is expected to further increase food shortages on the island.
The Cuban government imports a large portion of its food due to the collapse of the agricultural sector and deteriorating economic management.
