New normative legal acts have been approved with the aim of protecting consumer health, aligning the minimum quality and safety of food products of animal origin with international requirements, and minimizing the risks of cross-contamination in the food chain.
This was reported to “Elchi” by the Azerbaijan Food Safety Agency (AQTA).
It was stated that these new rules, approved by the relevant collegium decisions of AQTA, will further strengthen state control mechanisms in the fields of animal husbandry, feed production, and food safety in the country.
The collegium decision on the approval of “Sanitary norms and rules regarding the maximum permissible levels of coccidiostats or histomonostats not intended for use in feed products in food products of animal origin” serves to prevent the risks of unavoidable cross-contamination caused by coccidiostats or histomonostats during feed production, processing, and transportation. In this context, normative limits for the maximum permissible levels of substances not intended for use in feed products in food products of animal origin have been regulated.
With another decision, amendments were made to the “Sanitary norms and rules regarding the residual levels of pharmacologically active substances according to the classification of veterinary drugs in food products of animal origin.”
The amended sanitary norms provide for the improvement of requirements related to the prevention of risks that pharmacologically active substances, including antibiotics used in the treatment and prevention of animals, may create in the food chain. This decision establishes improved requirements for the maximum permissible limits of residues of pharmacologically active substances that may pose a threat to human health in food products of animal origin such as meat, milk, eggs, and honey.
The sanitary norms and rules approved by the mentioned decisions will enter into force on January 1, 2027.
