US Vice President JD Vance announced that they have made progress in negotiations with Iran after President Donald Trump rejected Iran’s latest proposal.
elchi reports that Vice President Vance answered journalists’ questions regarding the Iran agenda at a press conference held at the White House.
Assessing the current situation after President Trump rejected Iran’s latest proposal, Vance stated that Iran must present a proposal confirming that it will not possess nuclear weapons.
Stating that negotiations with Iranian officials are ongoing, the US Vice President said: “I spoke on the phone this morning with both (Trump’s son-in-law) Jared Kushner and (Trump’s special envoy) Steve Witkoff, as well as some of our friends in the Arab world. I think we are making progress. The main question is whether we have made enough progress to cross the President’s red line.”
JD Vance stated that their red lines are quite clear, saying: “The President must ensure that I have taken a series of security measures so that Iran can never possess nuclear weapons.”
Vance explained that they had made some progress in the negotiations held in Islamabad and that there had been further progress in the subsequent process, but Tehran had not yet reached the point he wanted to see regarding nuclear weapons.
US President Trump stated in his latest statement that the ceasefire with Iran is at its “weakest point” and in the “area of life support.”
The ceasefire, brokered by Pakistan, came into effect on April 8 and was later extended by US President Trump without a specific time limit.
On Sunday, Iran delivered its response to the US proposal to end the war to Pakistan, but Trump called the proposal “completely unacceptable” and “stupid.”
