US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth has stated that Washington does not intend to engage in “nation-building” efforts in Iran, but added that Tehran has destroyed a large number of its own citizens.

“We have no intention of getting involved in any nation-building project,” Hegseth said at a briefing held at the Pentagon.
He also claimed that the Iranian government has “killed 45,000 innocent civilians of its own people.”
Hegseth emphasized that the US goals remain limited and are primarily focused on security issues, as well as preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons.
