We strongly condemn the burning of the Turkish flag during the “torchlight procession” in Yerevan, the capital of Armenia, on April 23.
According to the information provided to “Elchi” by the MFA, the Armenian government should have timely prevented such a campaign, which is an embodiment of hatred rooted in ethnic grounds, and taken appropriate security measures.
“Turning a blind eye to such unacceptable acts by citing democratic norms, freedom of assembly, and freedom of speech is completely unacceptable.
Such acts, which are a clear manifestation of fascist thinking based on revanchist and ethnic hatred that is still strong in Armenia, must be condemned and prevented at the international level.
We call on the Armenian government to hold the perpetrators of these actions accountable,” the MFA statement says.
