The intergovernmental agreement on the “Azerbaijan–Georgia–Turkey–Bulgaria Green Energy Corridor” is planned to be signed within the framework of COP31, which will be held in November of this year.
“Elchi” reports that the Minister of Energy of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Parviz Shahbazov, stated this during his speech at the session titled “Regional energy connectivity and green transition: challenges and opportunities” held within the framework of the Azerbaijan International Investment Forum (AIIF 2026).
The Minister also stated that the development of electricity connectivity through Nakhchivan is of strategic importance for Azerbaijan.
Shahbazov noted that this project, which will have an initial transmission capacity of 1 GW, will create a new connection between Azerbaijan’s energy systems.
According to him, the project will create additional opportunities for the export of green electricity produced in other regions of Azerbaijan and Central Asia to Turkish and European markets via Nakhchivan.
The Minister stated that linking these projects could enable the creation of an integrated network of electricity interconnectors stretching from Central Asia to Europe.
