Iranian MFA: US blockade of the Strait of Hormuz is a violation of the ceasefire

The continuation of the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz by the US is a violation of the ceasefire regime and contrary to the fundamental norms of international law.

“Elchi” reports that this was stated by the spokesperson of the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), Esmail Baghaei, on the air of SNNTV.

He added that creating a minimum level of goodwill and demonstrating the seriousness of intentions during dialogue is a fundamental principle in any diplomatic process:

“However, in the case of the US, we have faced contradictory behavior and violations of commitments from the very beginning. The continuation of certain actions, such as restrictions or pressure on maritime routes, can be assessed as hostile acts and even an act of aggression under international law.”

According to the MFA official, when minimal obligations are not met during a ceasefire period, trust in the implementation of a broader agreement is also seriously undermined:

“Attacks on merchant ships not only violate the fundamental norms of international law but also increase distrust in the intentions of the other party in the overall ceasefire process.”

It should be noted that earlier, I. Baghaei also commented on the “10 bombs” allegations made against Iran on the air of SNNTV.
