As a result of long-term work with the German side, new rules regarding the recognition of official documents have come into force, which will significantly facilitate the work of Azerbaijani citizens.
elchi reports, citing Report, that the Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Germany wrote about this on his X account.
He stated that the legalization of documents by embassies between Germany and Azerbaijan has been completely stopped. Instead, the apostille procedure has been implemented.
“What does this mean? Both countries are parties to the 1961 Hague Apostille Convention. According to this Convention, an apostille stamp is sufficient for the recognition of official documents issued in one country in another country. No additional legalization or certification is required. As a result of the relevant work carried out with the German side, the Apostille Convention fully entered into force between the two states in March 2026. Thus, official documents issued in Germany are certified with an apostille stamp only by the relevant German state authorities, and this is sufficient for the recognition of those documents in Azerbaijan. There is no longer any need for additional legalization of these documents at the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Berlin,” the ambassador noted.
N.Ağayev also emphasized that documents issued in Azerbaijan are recognized in Germany only with an apostille stamp, and no additional legalization is required at the German Embassy in Baku:
“This important innovation clearly demonstrates once again that the effective cooperation based on mutual trust between Azerbaijan and Germany is continuously developing in the interests of our peoples.”
