Chairman of the Press Council of Azerbaijan Rashad Majid has called for a peaceful resolution to the tension that has arisen between Milli Majlis deputy Fazil Mustafa and journalist Taleh Shahsuvarli.
According to “Elchi”, Rashad Majid stated in his appeal to the parties:
“In my comment on journalist Taleh Shahsuvarli’s Facebook status, where he wrote in an emotional and somewhat agitated tone about inviting MP Fazil Mustafa to a debate on Laf TV, I mentioned that Taleh seemed to be preparing for a fight rather than a debate.
It would have been better if the esteemed Laman khanim had postponed the program without Fazil Mustafa in such a situation. A calm and composed polemic on the subject of the Safavids could have been more beneficial for the public.
I am familiar with Fazil bey’s thoughts and agree with many of them. I also consider his opinions about Mirza Fatali and Hasan bey Zardabi to be correct. However, the Safavids is such a topic that I am skeptical about reaching a general consensus on this matter. I think that such discussions will cause unnecessary confrontation between people with different views rather than objective clarity and historical enlightenment.
I wish Fazil bey to avoid the rude lexicon uncharacteristic of him and to be patient during polemics with journalists.
In my opinion, it is an unnecessary tension. Everyone will remain in their position in the end anyway.
