“Euronews” has prepared a report on the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13), which will be held in Azerbaijan next month.
“Elchi” reports that the coverage highlights that more than a billion people worldwide live in inadequate areas and that WUF13 serves as an important platform for addressing this problem.
The report notes that WUF13 is a significant platform for countries to exchange experiences and discuss ideas in the field of urban development.
“As a host, Azerbaijan will share its experiences in the field of settlement, especially regarding reconstruction issues in the post-conflict period,” the report says.
At the same time, it was stated that the settlement sector in Azerbaijan is closely linked to reconstruction.
Emin Huseynov, Special Representative of the President of Azerbaijan in Aghdam, Fuzuli, and Khojavand districts, said in an interview with “Euronews” that the goal is not just to build houses, but also to create an atmosphere of belonging for the population.
“A sense of belonging connects people to living and to the community,” he noted.
Emin Huseynov spoke about the importance of creating jobs, ensuring social life, and economic well-being alongside the construction of houses in the settlement process.
The report also includes the opinions of citizens returning to the liberated territories.
They stated that when they first arrived in the liberated areas, they found not only houses but also accessible markets, public catering facilities, and other vital infrastructure.
Residents noted that new trees have been planted in place of destroyed greenery, new parks have been laid out, and improvement works have been carried out.
The report also emphasized various aspects of the successful implementation of Azerbaijan’s Great Return program.
Aydin Karimov, Special Representative of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Shusha district, said that 1,400 people – 377 families – currently live in Shusha.
The report highlights that housing provision remains a global problem and that discussions at WUF13 will focus on inclusive policies, accessibility, and sustainable urban development.
