Hydrometeorology Service: Hail rarely falls in Baku

Hail events on the Absheron Peninsula, including Baku, occur rarely and are usually short-lived.

This was stated by Gulshad Mammadova, Director of the Hydrometeorological Forecasts Bureau of the National Hydrometeorology Service.

She said that hail is a short-term, local, and suddenly forming atmospheric phenomenon: “In Azerbaijan, hail is more characteristic of mountainous and foothill areas. Hail events in the country are mainly observed in the warm half of the year, especially in the spring months, and in some years, this process is also recorded in May–June.”

Gulshad Mammadova noted that the weather in Baku and on the Absheron Peninsula on April 16-17 is expected to be variably cloudy and mostly rainless: “Although the weather is expected to stabilize in the regions and remain mostly rainless during the day, there is a possibility of short-term light precipitation, lightning, hail, and snow in mountainous areas in some places during the day on the 16th. Fog will occur intermittently in some places.”

It should be noted that hail fell in Baku yesterday. (apa)
