Azerbaijan’s energy future will depend on decisions made regarding grid, energy storage systems, and market integration in the coming years.
“Elchi” reports that Stefanie Stallmeister, World Bank Country Manager for Azerbaijan, stated this at the meeting of the Green Energy Advisory Council.
Stefanie Stallmeister noted that there is a strong synergy between the Black Sea submarine cable and Green Energy Corridor initiatives, and both projects serve to increase energy connectivity.
She stated that the readiness level of the domestic energy system is among the priority areas. In this context, the “Scaling Up Renewable Energy in Azerbaijan” project, implemented by “Azerenergy” and financed by the World Bank, aims to strengthen the transmission network and integrate renewable energy.
Stefanie Stallmeister emphasized that energy storage systems play an increasingly important role in terms of grid stability and project sustainability, and the World Bank is ready to provide both financial and regulatory support in this area.
She added that infrastructure alone is not enough – market mechanisms, grid flexibility, and the development of interconnectors must be pursued in parallel.
The World Bank Country Manager for Azerbaijan stated that the institution, as a long-term partner, will continue its support in terms of financing, global expertise, and mobilizing private capital.
