MFA: Azerbaijani citizen killed, another missing in drone attack on cargo ship in the Black Sea

On October 5, a foreign cargo ship named “Royad Mammadov” was subjected to a drone attack in the Black Sea, near the coast of Romania.

This was reported to elchi by the Press Service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

It was stated that, according to the received information, as a result of the attack, Azerbaijani citizen, ship captain Hasanov Rustam Ismayil oglu, born in 1974, was killed. Another citizen of ours, Suleymanzade Mahammad Hamza oglu, born in 2002, is missing. Currently, relevant search operations are being carried out.

Other citizens of ours among the ship’s crew have been rescued, 3 of whom have been hospitalized.

It was noted that regarding the issue, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is carrying out coordinated work together with our country’s diplomatic representations and authorized bodies of relevant countries. Necessary measures are being taken to provide our citizens with necessary medical and consular support, as well as to implement the relevant procedures for bringing the bodies of our fallen citizens back to the homeland.

“We express our deep condolences to the families and relatives of our fallen compatriots and wish a speedy recovery to the injured.

Once again, we urge Azerbaijani citizens to refrain from traveling to regions where military operations are ongoing and the security situation is unstable, and from engaging in labor activities in these areas, as well as on vehicles, especially ships, moving along risky routes,” the statement reads.
