Azerbaijan and EU Discuss Regional Issues

Deputy Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan Yalchın Rafiyev met with a delegation from the Working Party on Eastern Europe and Central Asia (COEST) of the Council of the European Union (EU) who are on a visit to our country.

“Elchi” reports that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) released information about this.

During the meeting, the current state and development prospects of Azerbaijan-EU relations, partnership priorities, negotiations on a new bilateral agreement, energy and transport connectivity, climate cooperation, as well as regional issues were discussed.

The Deputy Minister stated that high-level contacts between Azerbaijan and the EU have intensified recently, and cooperation in the fields of energy, trade, and connectivity has expanded. The growing importance of the Middle Corridor was emphasized, and information was provided on the work done by Azerbaijan in the development of its transport and logistics infrastructure, the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway, the Port of Baku, and projects implemented in the liberated territories.

Touching upon energy cooperation, Azerbaijan’s contribution to Europe’s energy security, prospects for expanding natural gas supply, as well as projects implemented in the field of renewable energy were highlighted.

During the exchange of views on the Azerbaijan-Armenia normalization process, information was provided on the progress made since the Washington summit, the country’s peace agenda, and steps taken towards confidence-building.

Numerous questions from the delegation were answered during the meeting.
