Sahiba Gafarova met with the President of the Pan-African Parliament

On September 16, Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova met with a delegation led by President of the Pan-African Parliament Fortune Charumbira, who is on a visit to our country.

This was reported to “Elchi” by the Press and Public Relations Department of the Milli Majlis.

Speaker Sahiba Gafarova stated that the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan attaches special importance to the development of relations with the parliaments of African countries. In this regard, the development of parliamentary diplomacy, the further expansion of relations between parliaments, and the strengthening of political dialogue are of great importance.

At the meeting, the Speaker of the Milli Majlis provided information about the activities of the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network (NAM PN) and the Non-Aligned Movement Youth Organization (NAM YO), established on the initiative of President Ilham Aliyev, the work done during Azerbaijan’s chairmanship of the NAM PN, and the initiatives put forward by our country.

The Speaker expressed her confidence that the Pan-African Parliament will be another successful platform for developing our relations with the parliaments of African states.

President of the Pan-African Parliament Fortune Charumbira emphasized that Azerbaijan is the first country he has visited outside of Africa since being elected to this position.

During the conversation, an exchange of views took place on the development of cooperation between the Pan-African Parliament and the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan, as well as the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network, and other issues.

After the meeting, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Pan-African Parliament and the NAM PN. The document was signed by Speaker of the Milli Majlis and the NAM PN Sahiba Gafarova and President of the Pan-African Parliament Fortune Charumbira.
