According to data from Altrata, an analytical company specializing in private capital research, the number of dollar billionaires in the world increased by 8.2% in 2025, reaching a record high of 3,795.
“Elchi” reports that Altrata attributes the growth rate reaching a five-year high to the artificial intelligence (AI) boom, which is accelerating wealth growth worldwide. The company’s report states that the total wealth of the world’s billionaires increased by 12.8%, reaching a record $15.1 trillion.
According to the report, there are 29 ultra-wealthy individuals in the world (with a net worth of more than $50 billion). Their total wealth is approximately $4.1 trillion, which accounts for 27% of the capital of all billionaires. For comparison, in 2017, the number of ultra-wealthy individuals was only 10, and they accounted for 7.2% of the total wealth of the world’s billionaires.
According to Maya Imberg, head of research and analytics at Altrata, the AI boom has fueled the widening gap between billionaire fortunes. She warns that while the rise in technology company stock prices has led to record wealth creation, the dynamics of capital related to AI company stocks can be quite volatile.
Altrata data shows that in 2025, the number of billionaires in North America increased by 11.6% (faster than any other region) to 1,337.
In Europe, their number increased by 7.9% to 1,081, and in Asia, it rose by 6.5% to 881.
