On July 28, within the framework of her official visit to Ethiopia, Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova met with the Speaker of the House of Peoples’ Representatives of this country, Tagesse Chaffo.

This was reported to “Elchi” by the Press and Public Relations Department of the Milli Majlis.

It was stated that T. Chaffo, noting that his country attaches great importance to relations with Azerbaijan, pointed out that this visit of the Speaker of the Azerbaijani Parliament will contribute to further deepening cooperation between the legislative bodies.

S. Gafarova, in turn, stated that this visit is an indicator of the high value Azerbaijan places on mutual relations.

During the meeting, the visits of Ethiopian President Taye Atske Selassie and Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali to Azerbaijan, as well as their meetings with the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, were recalled. During the conversation, the importance of the visit of Leyla Aliyeva, Vice-President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, to Ethiopia in January 2026 was emphasized.

It was noted that there are broad opportunities for cooperation between the two countries in tourism, business, mutual investment, and cultural and humanitarian fields. As a successful indicator of this cooperation, it was stated that the “ASAN service” model is being implemented in Ethiopia, and this model is assessed as a trace of Azerbaijan in Ethiopia.

An extensive exchange of views took place at the meeting regarding the further development of inter-parliamentary relations. Sahiba Gafarova invited Tagesse Chaffo to pay an official visit to Azerbaijan, and the invitation was accepted with pleasure.

It was emphasized that there is great potential for further deepening cooperation between the parliaments of the two countries.

T. Chaffo stated that reforms are currently being carried out in his country’s legislative body and that Azerbaijan’s experience in this field is of interest to them.
