Israel plans to organize the mass production of its own guided JDAM aerial bombs within two years to become independent of arms supplies from the US.
elchi reports that this was stated by “The Jerusalem Post” newspaper.
The publication notes that back in 2024, Israel, under the instruction of then-Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, began increasing the production of its own aerial bombs. This decision was linked to the fact that in May of that year, the administration of former US President Joe Biden imposed a partial embargo on the supply of certain types of weapons to Israel. For decades, the Jewish state had relied on the US for the supply of these types of weapons.
According to the Director General of the Israeli Ministry of Defense, Amir Baram, the agency has recently been prioritizing the production of aerial bombs. “We are currently working on replenishing the stocks of all used munitions to be ready for any scenario. The decisions we made before the operation against Iran regarding the expansion and acceleration of production lines will allow us to raise the production pace to a new level,” the newspaper quoted Baram as saying.
The publication notes that Israel is already producing its own guidance systems (kits) to turn free-fall aerial bombs into high-precision weapons, but the production volume is still far from the desired level. No specific figures or technical characteristics regarding the production of the munitions were provided.
