Russian-linked hackers have carried out cyberattacks on surveillance cameras located along NATO military routes to track the supply of weapons to Ukraine and monitor the transport of military equipment.
elchi reports that this was stated in a joint declaration by the Netherlands’ General Intelligence and Security Service and the Military Intelligence and Security Service.
According to the information, the large-scale cyber operation targeted surveillance cameras installed along military-logistics routes in Europe, including those in the Netherlands. The hackers’ goal was to determine what weapons and military equipment were being sent to Ukraine.
During the investigation, it was determined that a small number of IP cameras located along military-logistics routes in the Netherlands had been hacked. The organizations that own these cameras have been informed, and security measures are being strengthened.
Intelligence agencies noted that the Netherlands is one of the primary targets of Russian intelligence due to its role as a transit country and the active military support it provides to Ukraine.
The statement also emphasized that most of the hacked IP cameras were not properly secured. They used default passwords, their software was not updated, and factory security settings had not been changed.
