Germany has decided to close Russia’s Consulate General in Bonn following a drone incident at Leipzig/Halle Airport on August 4.
“Elchi” reports, citing German media, that this was announced by the country’s Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt and Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul at a joint press conference.
According to Y. Wadephul, Russia’s Consulate General in Bonn will cease operations on September 18.
In addition to closing the consulate, the German government intends to terminate the agreement on the activities of the Russian House in Berlin, tighten controls on the entry of Russian citizens into the country, and increase pressure on the “shadow fleet.”
Berlin also seeks the imposition of additional sanctions against a number of Russian representatives within the European Union.
A. Dobrindt noted that the results of the police investigation, the nature of the incident, and intelligence data, based on the German side’s assessment, indicate that Russia is responsible for the attempted attack using a drone equipped with explosives at Leipzig/Halle Airport.
It should be recalled that a strike drone crashed into a Ukrainian cargo plane at Leipzig/Halle Airport, but no explosion occurred.
