The U.S. men’s national soccer team will share the prize money it earns from the 2026 World Cup with the women’s national team.
elchi reports that ESPN has provided information on this matter.
According to the report, the prize pool obtained from participating in the World Cup will be divided equally among the 26 players of the men’s team and the 26 players of the women’s team. This system is implemented based on a contract ratified in 2022 with the U.S. Soccer Federation.
The document was adopted after approximately six years of protests and legal battles against the federation by the women’s team demanding equal pay.
The U.S. team will receive $16 million from FIFA for advancing to the Round of 16 in the 2026 World Cup. The U.S. Soccer Federation will retain 20 percent of this amount, while the remaining 80 percent will be divided equally between the men’s and women’s teams.
Thus, both national teams will receive $6.4 million. As a result, each player will be paid $246,153.
