Representatives of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan held a working meeting regarding the strengthening of river banks in the border areas of the Batken region.
elchi reports that the meeting took place in the Tangi and Dachi border areas at the initiative of the Kyrgyz side.
The parties discussed the possibility of using soil and gravel obtained during the construction of a neutral road in the Dachi area by the Tajik side to strengthen both banks of the Ak-Su River. The works are planned to cover the section from the Dachi area to the “Golovnoy” water intake facility.
The parties reached an agreement on strengthening the river bank in the Kapchygay-Tangi section. Rising water levels pose a risk of bank erosion and changes to the riverbed. Currently, machinery is operating in the relevant section.
The head of the Batken District Water Department called on the Tajik side to accelerate the coastal protection works.
