A group of members of parliament in the United Kingdom has appealed to the government to stop or reconsider the broadcast of the popular children’s animated series “Masha and the Bear”.
“Elchi” reports, citing globalinfo.az, that “The Guardian” has provided information on this matter.
It was stated that a cross-party group of MPs sent a letter to Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy, expressing concerns that the series might contain hidden “propaganda content”:
“It is noted that the series is broadcast on Netflix and the ITVX platform in the UK. The MPs state that this content intended for children may carry the risk of “normalizing Soviet military symbols and ideological elements”.
In the letter, it is specifically alleged that in some episodes, the character Masha is shown wearing military uniforms and symbols reminiscent of the Soviet era. Ukraine’s Center for Countering Disinformation has also stated that the series could be a “soft power tool” for Russia.
However, the series’ producer, “Animaccord”, has firmly rejected these claims and emphasized that the project is an independent animation work that operates without receiving any state funding.”
