Maximum temperature reached 40 degrees in Azerbaijan last month

Last month, the maximum temperature in Azerbaijan was recorded in Julfa on June 20, reaching 40 degrees.

“Elchi” reports that this was stated by Nazim Mahmudov, head of the National Hydrometeorological Service.

According to him, in June of this year, the air temperature in Baku and the Absheron Peninsula was above the climatic norm for 21 days (1–7 degrees) and below the norm for 9 days (0–2 degrees):

“The average monthly temperature was 24 degrees Celsius, which is 1 degree above the climatic norm. In Baku and the Absheron Peninsula, the maximum temperature in June was recorded on June 19 at 37 degrees Celsius (Sumgayit), and in the regions (Julfa) it was 40 degrees Celsius. The minimum air temperature in Baku and the Absheron Peninsula was 11 degrees Celsius on June 3 (Mashtaga), and in high mountainous areas, the temperature was close to 0 degrees on the same day (Shahdag).”

N. Mahmudov stated that on some days in June, the weather was intermittently rainy, with lightning, and snow fell in mountainous areas:

“In some places, precipitation was intense and heavy in the form of downpours. The highest precipitation by region was recorded in the Balakan-Shaki zone (Kishchay-Shaki 170 mm), which is 168 percent of the monthly norm, the Central Aran zone (Bilesuvar 59 mm), which is 295 percent of the monthly norm, and Baku and the Absheron Peninsula (Baku 26 mm), which is 258 percent of the monthly norm. As a result of the snowfall, the maximum snow cover height was recorded at 1 cm in Shahdag on June 7.”

The head of the National Hydrometeorological Service emphasized that hail was observed in some villages of Dashkasan, Gadabay, Zagatala, Tovuz, Gazakh, Goygol, Tartar, Kalbajar, Lachin, Zangilan, Gubadli, and Aghstafa districts during June:

“The largest hail was recorded in Aghstafa district, with a diameter of 25–28 mm. Due to windy weather conditions on some days in June, 6 yellow and orange warnings were issued. Windy weather was observed for 6 days in Baku and the Absheron Peninsula, and for 23 days in the regions, with the maximum wind speed reaching up to 28 m/s in Baku, the Absheron Peninsula, and the regions.”
