Diploma works in “Artistic Carpet”: a successful synthesis of tradition and modernity demonstrated

The defense of diploma works by students of the “Artistic Carpet” specialization under the “Decorative-Applied Arts” major at the Azerbaijan State Academy of Fine Arts has been successfully held.

According to representatives of the Azerbaijan State Academy of Fine Arts, the projects presented during the defense process were evaluated as a high-level result of the theoretical knowledge and practical skills acquired by the students over the years.

The works submitted for defense were prepared based on the rich ornamentation and composition principles of traditional Azerbaijani carpet art, while also reflecting modern design approaches. The students’ works stood out for their individual creativity, color harmony, symbolic meaning, and new interpretations of national motifs.

Commission members particularly noted that the diversity of ideas and the level of technical execution in the presented diploma works fully demonstrate the effectiveness of the educational process and the professional development of the students.

The students who presented their diploma works were those who studied under the guidance of renowned artists and teachers — Məmmədhüseyn Hüseynov, Əkbər Nağıyev, Nigar Quliyeva, Minaxanım Hüseynova, and Eldar Mikayılzadə.

Commission members evaluated the students’ individual approaches, compositional structures, and technical execution skills, emphasizing that they are ready for their future professional activities.

According to experts, such defenses in the “Artistic Carpet” specialization are of great importance for the preservation and development of the Azerbaijani carpet weaving school in the modern era. In addition to preserving classical traditions, the students’ works also feature experiments in line with contemporary art trends.

Such defenses serve both to reveal the creative potential of young artists and to pass on the national decorative-applied arts to future generations.
