Persian Gulf countries and the US have imposed sanctions on Hezbollah’s financial network

The member states of the Terrorist Financing Targeting Center (Persian Gulf countries and the US) have announced the imposition of joint sanctions against key elements of the Hezbollah movement’s financial infrastructure.

“Elchi” reports that the US Department of the Treasury has released information regarding this matter.

According to the report, five organizations and 16 individuals, including the movement’s two largest financial structures – “Al-Qard Al-Hassan” (AQAH) and “Bayt al-Mal”, as well as their leaders, have been subjected to sanctions.

The statement noted that the coordinated measures confirm the commitment of the center’s participating countries to limit Hezbollah’s ability to use the international financial system. All entities on the new sanctions list were previously included in the US sanctions list.

According to the center’s assessment, the activities of the individuals and organizations included in the sanctions list pose a threat to regional stability, international security, and global trade. It is noted that restricting Hezbollah’s access to financial resources is aimed at protecting the international financial system, supporting the Lebanese people, and combating terrorist networks.

The current package is the third sanctions decision by the Terrorist Financing Targeting Center during the current US administration, and the ninth since the center’s establishment in May 2017.
