Ground-penetrating radars to be purchased for the search of missing persons

Clarifying the fate of missing persons remains one of the highest humanitarian priorities for Azerbaijan. We are committed to utilizing international experience, modern technologies, and best practices.

“Elchi” reports with reference to APA that this was stated by Gazanfar Ahmadov, Secretary of the State Commission on Prisoners of War, Hostages and Missing Persons and Head of the Working Group, at the international conference on “Modern Approaches and Strengthening Cooperation in Solving the Issue of Missing Persons” held in cooperation with the International Commission on Missing Persons (ICMP).

He stated that the State Commission continues to invest in advanced technologies and databases that allow for faster, more effective, and accurate search operations.

“Next year, it is planned to purchase special ground-penetrating radar observation systems. These types of systems have already been successfully tested in several Scandinavian countries. They allow for the detection of large underground objects, including human remains. It is also planned to introduce new-generation unmanned aerial vehicles. These systems can remain in the air for a long time. They will be equipped with advanced scanners and sensors that help identify potential search areas and areas of interest. Another important advantage is their mapping capabilities. They can map more than 45 square kilometers of territory in a single day. We believe that modern technologies will become an important part of future humanitarian search operations. They will complement the experience and professionalism of our specialists and help us achieve better results in determining the fate of missing persons,” noted Gazanfar Ahmadov.
