Jean-Luc Mélenchon, founder of the French leftist party “La France Insoumise,” has called on Paris to withdraw from NATO and enter into negotiations with Russia. The politician made this statement at a geopolitical symposium.
“Elchi” reports that, according to him, a dialogue with Moscow would allow France to obtain mutual guarantees after the conflict in Ukraine ends.
Melanchon also criticized the EU member states for their inability to participate in resolving the Ukrainian conflict and for delegating responsibility for this process to the alliance.
At the same time, the politician noted that there can be no talk of France remaining in NATO and the G7 or joining new military coalitions.
On June 17, Bloomberg reported on European Council President António Costa’s attempts to establish contact with Moscow. It was noted that Costa’s actions caused a negative reaction from several European governments.
Following this, the European Union split into two camps. “The Washington Post” newspaper stated that the EU is trying to establish a dialogue with Moscow because European politicians feel the need for it, while conversely, Ukraine does not want to be left out of the negotiation process.
Later, Costa stated that the EU is currently not a mediator in the resolution of the Ukrainian conflict and does not aim to become one.
