In recent times, the number of advertisements for various medicinal products on social media platforms has increased significantly. In particular, some pharmacists recommending specific drugs online can lead people to use these remedies without undergoing a medical examination.
But to what extent is this correct?
Experts state that taking medication without medical supervision can pose serious health risks. In such cases, the probability of gastric bleeding, acute impairment of kidney function, dangerous spikes in arterial blood pressure, and complications related to the cardiovascular system increases.
Regarding the issue, according to the Analytical Expertise Center of the Ministry of Health, under current legislation, only non-prescription drugs are permitted to be advertised in Azerbaijan. Advertising preparations sold by prescription is prohibited by law.
The Center also stated that advertisements are circulating on social networks regarding the import of drugs not registered in the country on a pre-order basis. Such activities are considered illegal, and it is impossible to control the storage, transportation, and quality of these products.
In relation to the topic, the State Service for Antimonopoly and Consumer Market Control notes that drug advertisements disseminated for sales purposes that do not reflect the truth can be assessed as misleading consumers.
In accordance with the Code of Administrative Offenses, if drug advertisements do not indicate the necessity of consulting a doctor, officials may face a fine of 300-500 AZN, and legal entities may face a fine of 1000-2000 AZN./milli.az/
