Putin: Zelensky’s letter does not create prerequisites for negotiations regarding Ukraine.
elchi reports that the letter from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky does not create prerequisites for peace negotiations. RIA Novosti reports that Russian President Vladimir Putin stated this during a meeting with graduates of higher military educational institutions.
According to the Russian leader, such appeals are aimed at creating a kind of conflict potential.
Putin recalled that three days after the publication of Zelensky’s letter, the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) attacked a college dormitory in Starobilsk (DPR).
“How should this be understood? What are the prerequisites for personal meetings and negotiations?” the Russian president asked.
On June 4, an open letter from Zelensky to Putin was published on the official website of the Ukrainian president, in which he proposed to end the military conflict “honestly and with dignity.”
In the letter, Zelensky also called on the Russian leader to set a date for negotiations and hold a personal meeting. According to the letter, the Ukrainian side is ready to completely cease fire during the dialogue. The head of the republic believes that the US could monitor the ceasefire.
Putin responded publicly to the letter during his speech at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF). He stated that personal contacts with Zelensky are meaningless until an agreement on resolving the conflict is reached.
