The International Maritime Organization (IMO) is beginning the implementation of an evacuation plan for more than 11,000 sailors stranded in the Strait of Hormuz.
elchi reports that this was stated in a declaration by the organization’s Secretary-General, Arsenio Dominguez, on the IMO website.
According to him, the large-scale evacuation operation will be carried out in close coordination with Iran, Oman, other coastal states in the region, the United States, and representatives of the maritime industry.
He noted that the necessary security guarantees have already been received, which allows for the commencement of the operation.
The IMO Secretary-General emphasized that a new phase in restoring maritime security is beginning following the signing of the agreement between the US and Iran. According to him, the document has been a decisive step toward halting attacks on civilian shipping and stabilizing the situation in the region.
