MEDIA: Exaggerated headlines on some websites have created artificial hype

Some media entities have presented the scientific-statistical data on student admissions and graduation exam results of general education institutions for the 2025/2026 academic year, published in the 12th issue of the State Examination Center’s “Abituriyent” magazine, in a manipulated form on their pages and social networks.

elchi reports that, according to the information released by the Media Development Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan (MEDIA), the use of exaggerated headlines such as “Urgent: 200 students died in Azerbaijan” and “Shock: 200 students have died in Azerbaijan” in some media resources is unacceptable as an attempt to create artificial hype in society.

We call on media entities to strictly adhere to the requirements of the Law of the Republic of Azerbaijan “On Media,” as well as the principles of professional journalism when disseminating information. Especially when interpreting statistical data, their source, methodology, and context must be explained correctly.

We remind once again that a responsible and professional approach when covering topics of public importance is one of the main duties of media entities.
