“In the next stage, appropriate monitoring and audit mechanisms must be established to detect the status of personal data storage in information systems.”
Oxu.Az reports that Bahar Muradova, Chair of the State Committee for Family, Women and Children Affairs, stated this during a joint meeting of the Milli Majlis committees on Human Rights, Family, Women and Children Affairs, and Legal Policy and State Building, while discussing proposed amendments to the Code of Administrative Offenses and the laws “On Information, Informatization and Protection of Information” and “On Protection of Children from Harmful Information”:
“Regarding the challenges related to global platforms, it should be noted that their borderless influence is broader than national legal systems. For this reason, as the State Committee, we have held discussions with a number of platforms, including ‘Roblox’, and have clearly expressed our main message: the safety of a child must take precedence over commercial interests.”
If a platform cannot protect minors, it is not a suitable environment for children in our view, and we cannot remain passive observers of this.
Are we leaving children to the risks of the digital world, or are we building a system that protects them? The document discussed today represents the choice of the second path. I am confident that this law will strengthen the protection of children, increase the responsibility of families, reinforce the state’s information security, and make Azerbaijan’s digital future more resilient.”
