Currently, large-scale restoration and construction works being carried out in the Karabakh and East Zangezur regions within the framework of the implementation of the State Program on the Great Return to the liberated territories are based on ecological approaches.
elchi reports that this was stated by the Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources Rashad Ismayilov at an international event dedicated to World Environment Day (WED) hosted by Azerbaijan.
The Minister stated that Azerbaijan has received expert support from the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) to support the ecological restoration process in the Karabakh and East Zangezur regions: “We express our gratitude to the organization for this support.”
It was noted that over the last 20 years, more than 100 parks and green zones have been established in Baku city alone, and large-scale projects have been implemented to protect ecological balance and ensure citizens live in a healthier environment: “As successes of recent years, we can point to the expansion of the network of protected areas to more than 10% of the country’s territory with the creation of the Akhar-Bakhar and Ilisu National Parks, and the commencement of work on creating new national parks in Karabakh and East Zangezur. Non-governmental organizations have also made significant contributions to this process. Ecological initiatives, including projects implemented with the support of the IDEA Public Union and eco-volunteers for the protection of biodiversity and the return and restoration of endangered species to their historical habitats, have yielded important results. Today, we are solemnly celebrating Environment Day. The environmental problems we face must be kept in the spotlight.”
