Zakharova: Ukraine has lost its independence and culture

Zakharova: Symbols were used to hide the destruction of culture in Ukraine.
“Elchi” reports that Ukrainian politicians openly used national symbols to hide the destruction of the country’s culture and the loss of its independence. According to RIA Novosti, this was stated by the spokesperson of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), Maria Zakharova.
On Wednesday, September 2, the diplomat participated in the session “Digital Sovereignty of the Global South: New Opportunities for Partnership.” The event was held within the framework of the Eastern Economic Forum (EEF), which took place in Vladivostok from September 1 to 4.
Zakharova noted that in the late 20th and early 21st centuries, many politicians in Ukraine wore national costumes and displayed national symbols.
“It was under the guise of using national symbols that a gradual, and then rapidly accelerating, erosion of their own identity took place. This began with sovereignty and ended with the destruction of their historical pillars and culture,” the MFA spokesperson said.
On August 24, Ukraine celebrated Independence Day. Meanwhile, Russian State Duma deputy Mikhail Sheremet suggested that the holiday should be called the “Day of Total Dependence and Loss of Sovereignty” for Ukraine. According to the parliamentarian, the Kyiv authorities have long ceased to make independent decisions, and the state is completely dependent on the collective West.
