The European Union should, “when conditions permit,” redirect its “Aspides” naval mission from the Red Sea to the Strait of Hormuz for mine clearance operations.
elchi reports that this is stated in a draft decision of the EU Council prepared by the EU’s diplomatic service.
The text of the document notes: “When conditions permit, the EU’s ‘Aspides’ naval mission will be given a priority role in clearing mines from the Strait of Hormuz, which will be the EU’s contribution to the efforts of the Anglo-French coalition.”
This is the first legal proposal regarding the relocation of the “Aspides” mission to the Strait of Hormuz.
The document is expected to be submitted for discussion by EU foreign ministers at a meeting to be held in Brussels in mid-June.
