Ebola panic on plane: US route diverted to Canada

An Air France passenger plane was forced to divert its route after a passenger from the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) was “mistakenly” allowed on board, despite newly implemented Ebola travel restrictions.
“Elchi” reports that the plane, which took off from Paris, the capital of France, and was heading to Detroit, USA, made an emergency landing in Montreal, Canada, after US customs officials refused to grant landing permission.
The US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) stated that the passenger should not have been allowed to board the plane due to entry restrictions implemented to reduce the risk of the Ebola virus. The statement said: “CBP took decisive action and prohibited the aircraft carrying this passenger from landing at Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport and diverted the aircraft to Montreal.”
Travel restrictions and new rotation policy
The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) have implemented temporary measures to prevent new Ebola outbreaks from East and Central Africa from entering the country.
According to these measures, the entry of foreign citizens who are not US passport holders and have been in Uganda, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, or South Sudan within the last 21 days is restricted for 30 days. Under the new rules, all flights carrying foreign passengers from epidemic regions will only be allowed to land at Washington-Dulles International Airport in Virginia. It was stated that the US government has centralized advanced public health measures and screening resources at this airport.
