Iran and Oman discuss payment system for passage through Hormuz

Iran and Oman are in talks to establish a permanent fee system that would formalize control over shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.

“Elchi” reports that Bloomberg cited Iran’s ambassador to France, Mohammad Amin-Nejad, regarding this matter.

“Iran and Oman must mobilize all resources to both ensure security and manage shipping in the most efficient way possible. This will require costs, and naturally, those who wish to benefit from this flow will also have to pay their share,” the diplomat noted.

It should be recalled that on February 28, the US and Israel launched military operations against Iran, and airstrikes were carried out on a number of cities. On the same day, Supreme Leader of Iran Ali Khamenei was killed as a result of the strikes. In response, Iran attacked Israeli territory and US military bases in Persian Gulf countries.

Iran, the US, and their allies reached a ceasefire agreement on the night of April 8. Trump later extended the ceasefire indefinitely.

The parties held talks in Pakistan to resolve the conflict, but the first round held on April 11-12 yielded no results.

The US has blockaded Iranian ports and passage through the Strait of Hormuz to exert pressure on Tehran. Iran has also announced that the Strait of Hormuz is closed to ships heading to the Persian Gulf. The dynamically changing situation in the region has caused a global energy crisis.
