European countries may face drug shortages due to rising tensions around Iran and the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.

“Elchi” reports, citing the “La Tribune” newspaper, that this is due to disruptions in supply chains in the pharmaceutical industry, as Europe is 80% dependent on China and India in this sector, and industrial stability in those countries has been disrupted due to rising oil and gas prices.

Delays in aviation routes in the Middle East and Asia are also negatively affecting the situation.

“Other delivery options exist, but they are more expensive, and the supply chains for a number of substances are so complex that this could gradually lead to shortages,” noted Deniz Ünal, a representative of the CEPII economic research center.

In addition, the publication stated that many components, including ethylene, urea, and paraffin, are imported directly from Persian Gulf countries.

According to the insurance company “Coface”, paracetamol and a number of antibiotics are primarily at risk.

Earlier, the “Le Parisien” newspaper, citing the Confederation of Small Enterprises in the Construction Sector, reported that construction material prices in France have increased significantly due to the situation around Iran.
